Be Seated! The Chairs are Completed!
Artists have been delivering their completed chairs
and they are all one of-a-kind. There are beach
scenes, florals, ships, sea creatures, gems –
something for everyone!
Be sure to check
out the Gloucester Daily Times ad listing all
participating artists, running Tuesdays through the
month of May. Ads featuring photographs of all of the
chairs will begin to appear in the Times in July, and
will run through September. Each weekly ad will be
different, featuring four of the chairs - for those of
you who want to start a scrapbook!
The Display Committee is working to finalize the
matching of Sponsors, Artists and summer locations.
In an effort to protect these beautiful pieces of art,
many Sponsors have elected to have their chairs
located inside and additional Host Sites have been
identified such as Rockport Library, Rockport Art
Association, Cape Ann Savings
Bank, Stop & Shop, and the North Shore Arts
Association.

Pathways Unveils “Throne of Trogabigzanda”
|
We are excited to announce the unveiling of our
CHAIRS for CHILDREN larger-than-life mascot. The
oversized Adirondack chair - which was designed,
built, and decorated by Gloucester High School
Students - was revealed during an unofficial kickoff in
front of the Gloucester Police Station on Friday, May
5th. Representative Anthony Verga was on hand to
show his support and help us celebrate our second bi-
annual community art endeavor. A brochure listing all
Sponsors and Artists, along with a description of the
event can be
found next to the chair or click here to download a .pdf copy.
Through a partnership between the GHS Carpentry
and Art Departments, two sets of students spent
nearly six months designing and decorating this
unusual piece of artwork. The exaggerated
Adirondack chair will act as the CHAIRS for CHILDREN
mascot – helping to build excitement and interest in
the upcoming event. Students from GHS’s Honors and
Advance Placement Studio Art, fashioned this great
chair after a fantasy concept, working from a story
that began with their quest to unearth Gloucester’s
buried treasure, entitling the chair, “Throne of
Trogabigzanda.” At the end of the summer the chair
will return to its roots and become the property of
Gloucester High School.

Sponsor Liaison’s Deliver Kid’s Chairs
|
|
As a special thank you to our Sponsors, and to
help create exposure for CHAIRS for
CHILDREN, small doll-sized chairs, hand
painted by Pathways’ kids, were delivered to the
Sponsors by the Sponsor Liaison Committee. The
chairs were well received and find themselves on
desks, counters and homes throughout Cape Ann.

Artist: Judy Metcalfe
|
|
Judy Metcalfe, pictured here with “Cat and Mouse” is
a Signature Member of the New England Watercolor
Society and has exhibited work with the American
Watercolor Society in New York. She is an artist
member of the Academic Artists Association and of
the North Shore Arts Association.
Judy is a realist watercolor painter who paints
primarily still life, landscapes and seascape
paintings. “I am drawn to subjects that are full of
sunlight. I’m intrigued by the way objects come alive
with sunlight, how some objects seem to take in the
light and glow while others reflect a dazzling brilliant
light and rich palette of colors in their shadows.”
Judy’s work will be featured in the 2006 Edition of
American Artist Watercolor Magazine. She is
currently represented by the Walsingham Gallery in
Newburyport, MA.

Did you Know?
|
|
Pathways for Children’s student artwork will be
exhibited at the Cape Ann Historical Museum in the
Student Art Gallery during the months of May and
June. Head Start children, ages 2-5 years, have
their talents on display in May and the School Age
children, ages 5-13 years, will be featured in June.
This program is an exciting way to acknowledge
young artists and provide an opportunity for them to
share their work as the Historical Museum offers
complimentary passes to these student artists and
family and friends are encouraged to visit.
