Schooner Adventure
The Gloucester Adventure is a non-profit historic preservation and educational organization founded in 1988. We are the stewards of the National Historic Landmark dory-fishing schooner Adventure, the last of the great Gloucester fishing schooners. Built in Essex, MA in 1926 at the end of the commercial age of sail, the Adventure was the "highliner" of the fishing schooner fleet, and when the vessel retired in 1953, she was the last American dory-fishing schooner working the banks of the North Atlantic. Today, Adventure is an icon of America's fishing heritage. The historic schooner is undergoing extensive restorations to prepare for her new role as a sailing classroom focused on environmental education and dedicated to preserving our fisheries and our fishing communities. If you'd like to lend a hand, visit us at www.schooner-adventure.org or call 978-281-8079.
